Hello, my name is David Moenning. I am the founder and Chief Investment Strategist at TopStockPortfolios.com. To give you a little background on the guy directing the investment strategy around here, I am not a journalist or an individual that dabbles in the market in my spare time. I am a full-time money manager and the President and Chief Investment Strategist of my Chicago based SEC Registered Investment Advisory firm. I began my investment career in 1980 and have been an independent money manager since 1987. Thus, I have been live on the firing line and investing for a living for more than two decades.

While it may sound corny, the overriding goal of this website is to help investors. To be sure, my team doesn't have all the answers. But we do have an awful lot of experience and as such, we have made an awful lot of mistakes! In addition, we have learned a thing or two along the way and we promise to do our darndest to pass along as many valuable investing lessons as we can.

So let's get started. At TopStockPortfolios.com, our management philosophy is based on two overriding principles.

    1. Own the Best and Ignore the Rest!
    2. Always, Always, Always Manage Market Risk

While there are never any guarantees in investing, our first goal is to "own the best and ignore the rest" in terms of stock selection and asset class allocation. In short, we strive to keep our portfolios focused squarely on the market's leadership.

We believe strongly that investors can achieve far greater success in the market by focusing on the "Top Stocks" and ignoring the hype, hoopla, and everybody's opinions on stocks. For the record, we define "top stocks" are those companies rated highest in terms of earnings strength and stock performance.

Ask yourself a couple simple questions:

  • Why would you want to invest in any old stock when you can own companies with the strongest earnings?
  • Why bother with a so-called "blue chip" when you can own a top performer?

Cutting to the chase, we've found that by focusing on the “top stocks,” the odds of success are stacked in your favor -- before you ever enter a buy order.

Next, at TopStockPortfolios.com we believe it is vital to manage the risk in the stock market on an ongoing basis. Therefore, one of the objectives in every one of our portfolios is to stay in-tune with the risk/reward environment of the market at all times.

We strongly believe that strategies to reduce exposure to market risk during severe declines should be part of every investor’s portfolio. Our thinking is that no investor, if given a choice, would have wanted to remain fully invested during brutal bear markets such as Tech Bubble Bear of 2000-03 and the 2008 Credit Crisis Crash. Therefore, we strive to reduce risk whenever a bear market begins to growl.

In addition, for more sophisticated investors, we offer dedicated short portfolios, alternative asset class portfolios, as well portfolios that can “go both ways” in the market.

In sum, we started TopStockPortfolios.com to help individual investors incorporate professional investing and trading strategies into their private portfolios. Our overriding goal is to help our members and visitors become the most successful investors they can be, regardless of the market environment.
